Indigeco Recruitment is supporting the Australian Electoral Commission in sourcing an APS5 Indigenous Engagement Officer for an initial contract till 30th June 2025 with a potential extension of 6 months. The salary range is $82,336 - $90,234 plus 15.4% superannuation.
This is an identified position. You must understand the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and have proven culturally appropriate engagement and communication skills.
Purpose of the Role:
Join the Australian Electoral Commission’s Indigenous Electoral Participation Program (IEPP) team, where you will collaborate with community partners to identify and address barriers to First Nations electoral participation. This role plays a key part in making Australian elections more accessible for culturally diverse communities.
Key Responsibilities:
Engage with internal and external partners to support electoral participation initiatives.
Represent the AEC in various forums, including travel to remote localities.
Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.
Support team leads in delivering program objectives effectively.
Identify and resolve challenges while maintaining high attention to detail.
Key Requirements:
An understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with First Nations communities.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, adaptable for diverse audiences.
Organisational and problem-solving skills with a commitment to achieving positive outcomes.
Team-oriented mindset with a strong focus on collaboration.
Qualifications in Indigenous studies or community engagement/education.
Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, or the ability to quickly learn.
