Who are we?
Founded in 1984, the Rirratjingu Aboriginal Corporation (RAC) represents the Rirratjingu people, the Indigenous Traditional Owners of Land on the Gove Peninsula. The RAC’s aim is to ensure the Rirratjingu community is financially self-sufficient and able to deliver benefits to our members and make a genuine difference in our community.
Position Purpose?
The Culture and Community Manager role oversees community-based initiatives that address local priorities, whilst ensuring they align with the Corporation’s broader strategic goals.
This role supports the development, preservation, and transmission of cultural knowledge, while facilitating programs that enhance the social, emotional, and physical well-being of the community.
Key Responsibilities?
Implementation of the Board approved strategic and operational plans, particularly as they relate to the priorities associated with the following programs: culture, football, education, employment, music, family violence, health, welcoming ceremony, alleviating poverty including the members social program, funeral fund, and emerging leadership program.
Responsible for the oversight of RAC website and social media pages.
Responsible for the ongoing performance and progress of these programs in addition to other initiatives designed to promote health and wellbeing amongst community members.
Provide the necessary oversight of budgets and key deliverables associated with the delivery of the above-mentioned programs. This oversight will include the overall Culture and Community budget and in particular the Social Program and the Funeral Fund.
Work within the scope and ongoing direction as set by the General Manager – Community Services, with input from various internal and external stakeholders.
Secure grant funding for RAC where this will add value to existing program deliverables. This will include the overall initiation and facilitation of applications for grant funding under the counsel and direction of the General Manager – Community Services.
Build and maintain productive and professional relationships with key stakeholders for the benefit of the corporation.
Skills and Experience Required?
5 years experience in community engagement, cultural programs, or social services.
Experience in leading teams and managing culturally significant programs that promote the health, wellbeing, and cultural integrity of the community.
Deep understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, protocols, and values.
Ability to navigate cultural nuances and lead initiatives in a way that aligns with community expectations and traditions.
Strong interpersonal skills to build trust and rapport with community members, elders, stakeholders, and government bodies.
Capacity to engage with diverse groups and facilitate meaningful community participation in programs.
Experience managing projects and programs from inception to evaluation, ensuring they align with cultural values and organisational goals.
Proven leadership abilities to guide and motivate a diverse team of staff.
Capacity to advocate for the needs and aspirations of the community at a local level.
Strong oral and written communication skills to convey ideas clearly and respectfully across diverse audiences.
Education Required?
Previous study in Community Development, Social Work, Indigenous Studies or equivalent.
Qualifications or Licences Required?
Working Rights in Australia
Drivers License is essential
Working with Children Clearance (or ability to obtain one)
