The overarching function of the Aboriginal Disability Liaison Officer is to ensure that the support is organised, sequenced and supported to enable effective access to appropriate services both internal and external to OAMS, while waiting on an outcome from the NDIS. The role is to advocate for a potential participant’s wellbeing and help people of all life stages cope with and solve everyday problems. Ensuring correct and appropriate evidence is gathered and collated to meet the access requirements
Role & Responsibilities:
Supports potential participants through the first steps of applying for NDIS funding, navigating the system and ensuring open communication and constant advocating through the whole process.
Discussing Eligibility (are you able to access the NDIS?)
Signing ALL relevant papers to act on behalf/ and alongside of participant including consent forms
Gathering Supporting Documents
Collaborating with Health Services
Completing Application forms
Providing support to enable access to and attending dr, specialist, allied health appointments with the participant
Contacting NDIA (National Disability Insurance Agency)
Securing an appropriate NDIS plan that meets the Participants goals and needs
Administers requested referrals to other organisations and services with /for clients
Ensure clients / families are able to navigate OAMS services and administration
Assists clients, where necessary, to understand the services that they can access
Follow up client to see if services are in place and that they are seeing health services
Attends staff meetings and other meetings as requested
Undertakes appropriate Staff Development
Other duties at the request of the NDIS Manager and/or Lead

Key Selection Criteria:
Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander (NB: applicants race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW)
Demonstrated experience in working with people who have a disability
Sound communication skills both verbal and written
Demonstrated experience working unsupervised and as part of a team
Demonstrated experience working within the NDIS or similar field
Demonstrated experience in reporting
Demonstrated effective organisational interpersonal skills
Understanding of privacy & confidentiality principles
High standard of records management (data entry, data cleansing, archiving, reporting) to meet regulatory, standards and/or reporting requirements and timeframes
